Finding oneself in the unknown with Lauren Fensterstock

I'm so excited to introduce my first guest Lauren Fensterstock. She is a Maine based artist and Ashtangi, whose sculptures draw from her Buddhist and yoga practices to bring attention to embodied experience. Extravagant in their material presence and devotional labor, her work commands the eye to the present space and moment. Lauren's work in the art studio is braided together with her daily practice on the yoga mat and meditation cushion. She's practiced yoga for 15 years and found ashtanga during the early months of the COVID pandemic when she was looking for structure amidst the unknown. Lauren's art work has been featured in museums internationally. Some of these include The Chrysler Museum, The John Michael Kohler Art Center, Bowdoin College Museum of Art, and The Smithsonian American Art Museum. Outside the studio Lauren teaches at RISD and critiques art around the country. She has held appointments at the Rhode Island School of Design, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Maine College of Art. Enjoy the show!
